Deviation Actions
I'm looking to start doing simple sketch requests. I'm open to anything really, I just need excuses to keep practicing and being motivated. So if you have a character or idea you'd like drawn, send me a message and I'll consider it. No guarantees, but no cost either, so go for it!
The 5000-Piece Jigsaw
Things are slowly slotting into place. :) I hope to get back to doing scenes and landscapes soon, as it's been entirely too long since I touched that side of art, and it feels a bit criminal to be neglecting it considering it was the driving force behind me creating this account!
But oh, the diversion was so necessary. You have no idea. Studying fundamentals has given me such an enormous boost of ability, confidence, and passion. And now that I'm more comfortable drawing figures, and have better tools for the job (hello Manga Studio 5, Poser, Sketchup and even a brand new drawing tablet!) I think I should be in a position to create far more

Focusing on study and practice has helped me improve tenfold. But it's had an unintended side-effect: I find myself paralysed from starting/finishing any 'real' pieces of work.
What I mean is, it seems pointless to put more than 1-2 hours into the same piece, when I could be doing more practice.
I suppose this may change when I'm done with draftsmanship and move back to painting techniques... at least, I hope it does. My gallery (but not the scrapbook) is starting to collect cobwebs.

However, over the months I've become more and more aware that my skills are not at the standard I thought they were. And the closer I examined my own works, the keener I realised I needed to do more than simply practice and get faster, more proficient; I needed to go right back to the very basics and build up a foundation that I never knew had been missing all along.
I have ne
Studying Hard to Work Smart
Seems I've done nothing but read and watch instructional videos lately, but it feels like I'm unlocking the unspoken secrets of... well, everything.
One of the biggest and most surprising things I've learned lately is that the advice to "just practice and you'll get good" is actually pretty terrible. Practice without a focused goal is barely an iota of worth above doing nothing at all, and ineffectual practice is just as bad. On some instinctual level, I knew this-- that's why I halted the daily uploads.
I know now that there's a step missing, and it comes before the practice: First, you must learn to see.
Sounds silly, doesn't it? If you
